Outdrive Cooling Showers:
It's a recognized industry fact, heat is one of the leading factors of outdrive failure today. The next leading fact is drive cooling showers greatly extend the life of an outdrive. By reducing gear case temperatures by as much as 50 degrees you can help keep gearcase oil from breaking down. Beware there are many brands trying to capitalize on the drive shower needs of boaters by using gimmicks such as multiple outlet holes or altered water pick-ups. Independent testing has proved neither of these to be successful just some good old fashioned photography alterations. So rest assured whichever drive shower style you prefer all of the drive showers we offer at CP Performance have been tested and work.

Water Inlet Pick-upHardin Marine has been manufacturing outdrive cooling systems for well over a decade now. Commonly referred to as "showers" these units were developed due to continued premature outdrive failure caused by the overheating of outdrive gear case oils, a result of lubrication breakdown due to excessive heat. As the gear oil temperature would exceed a maximum operating temperature it would move away from the outdrives main upper case bearing eliminating adequate lubrication ultimately causing premature failure and expensive gear damage. This problem is a common occurance on both pleasure and high performance stern drive equipped power boats. Our years of research and development have lead to a number of product updates throughout the years one of the most significant is the development of a high flow 80-degree water inlet pick-up. Original water inlet pick-ups used a 45-degree angle requiring the propeller to generate a majority of the water flow, unfortunately as the outdrive was trimmed for optimum performance these units lose efficiency. While other brands have tried closed bottom versions with front inlets these units create tremendous aeration problems close to the propeller resulting in propeller cavitation. Our 80-degree scoop inspired water inlet provides nearly no water disturbance while providing maximum water flow. The Hardin Marine cooling systems are the clear choice. |

The Stainless Steel "Cool Tube" has been one of our favorite drive showers for years.
This drive shower offers all of the function your pleasure boat's outdrive needs in
a simple, effective, economical, and stylish shower. This rigid 1/2" thick wall
316 stainless steel tube attaches to your stern drive in two locations, one location
is the anti-cavitation plate of the stern drive with the pick extending slightly
below the underside, while the top attaches to one of your existing top cap bolts.

This is another popular drive cooling shower. This drive shower was inspired from the offshore racing industry. For years race boats have used this drive cooling shower with its stainless steel braided Teflon tube. The tube attaches to a triangular showerhead that bolts to the top of your outdrive using two of your factory cap bolt locations. A high speed water pickup attaches to the anti-cavitation plate of your outdrive. Note: TRS model uses a different style shower head. | |||||||
