IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The marine industry installs various makes of
ignition distributors into the engines it sells. They are Delco Marine, Prestolite,
Mallory, Autolite and Mercury Marine. It is the customer's responsibility to know
what distributor is in the boat being serviced.
Note:
- All Chevy 4 & 6 cylinder inline engines use Delco distributors.
- All Chevy V6 marine engines with breaker points use Prestolite distributors.
- Mercury Marine and Autoliote distributors were only installed in
MerCruiser engines.
MERCRUISER NOTE:
- All MerCruiser 4 cylinder sterndrive engines were only installed in
MerCruiser engines.
- All MerCruiser V8 sterndrive engines with Mallory distributors (about 90% of
all MerCruiser V8's with breaker point ignitions use Mallory distributors) use the
tall cap and rotor.
- All MerCruiser V8 sterndrive engines with Prestolite distributors use the clip on
cap and rotor.
OMC NOTE:
- All OMC engines with Prestolite distributors use the clip on cap and rotor up to
and including 1981 and the screw down cap and rotor from 1982 and newer.
VOLVO NOTE:
- All Volvo V8 engines with Prestolite distributors (about 90% of all Volvo
V8 engines use Prestolite distributors) use the clip on cap and rotor up to
and including 1980 and the screw down cap and rotor from 1981 and newer.
All Volvo V8 engines with Mallory distributors use the flat cap and rotor.
